Appendix K
The FIA regulations for historic motor sport. They define vehicle classes and eligibility – and permit regularity rallies with an average speed of no more than 50 km/h.
Appendix K is the part of the FIA's International Sporting Code that governs historic motor sport. It defines which cars count as historic, groups them into classes by period of construction (periods A to J) and sets the technical requirements – the aim being that historic cars compete in their period specification and are not altered by modern technology.
For regularity rallies Appendix K matters especially: it allows organisers affiliated to the FIA or FIVA to run regularity rallies whose average speed does not exceed the lower of the following two speeds – 50 km/h, or the maximum normally permitted for competitions by national law. This 50 km/h limit is thus the internationally decisive threshold: anyone setting a higher average is no longer running a regularity rally.
Cars competing internationally under Appendix K need an HTP (Historic Technical Passport). For pure regularity rallies the simpler HRCP document suffices. Both are issued by the national sporting authorities (ASNs) to FIA specifications. In France, incidentally, the scored regularity section is called a zone de régularité (ZR).
