Interchangeable plate

A Swiss licence plate used alternately on several vehicles – only one of which may be driven at a time. For veteran vehicles, more than two are allowed.

An interchangeable plate (German Wechselschild or Wechselnummer) is a Swiss licence plate carried alternately on several vehicles belonging to the same owner; only one of these vehicles may be on the road at any given time. Two vehicles per plate is the norm. For veteran vehicles a special rule applies: an interchangeable plate or pair of plates may be issued for more than two veteran vehicles – attractive for anyone who owns several classics. The interchangeable plate is thus the Swiss counterpart to the German 07er-Kennzeichen, but works differently: it is a regular plate without a logbook requirement and is not limited to test or event drives.
