The H-Kennzeichen is the German registration plate for classic cars; the 'H' stands for historisch (historic). It can be applied for on a vehicle at least 30 years old that is largely original, in good condition and regarded as heritage worth preserving. It requires a classic-car assessment under §23 StVZO. Unlike the 07er-Kennzeichen, which is only for test, transfer and event drives and needs a logbook, the H-Kennzeichen allows unrestricted everyday use – at a favourable flat-rate tax and with access to low-emission zones. The Swiss equivalent is veteran-vehicle status.
