CAST

US abbreviation for 'Change Average Speed To' – the instruction in a TSD rally to drive a new prescribed average speed from that point on.

CAST stands for 'Change Average Speed To' and is a core instruction in American TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) rallying. It specifies that from a given point a new prescribed average speed must be maintained. From this and the distance covered, the navigator works out the due time at each control. CAST instructions appear in the route instructions and are the counterpart to the average-speed requirement of the European regularity test.
