Average-speed table

Table giving, for a prescribed average speed, the target time for each distance – an aid in regularity stages.

An average-speed table is an aid for regularity stages. For a particular prescribed average speed – the regularity average – it gives which target time belongs to which distance. Instead of having to calculate continuously while driving, the co-driver can read off the table where the car should be at a given time, or which time is ideal at a given point.

Average-speed tables are prepared for the averages actually driven, often in minute or second steps and in fine distance increments. They are a classic tool of precise regularity rallying and complement the tripmeter and stopwatch. By keeping the average cleanly, the crew uses the table to hit the target time exactly.
