Minute start

A start procedure in which cars are sent off one after another at one-minute intervals, in start-number order.

In a minute start the cars are sent onto the course one after another at one-minute intervals in start-number order: start number 1 at, say, 9:31, start number 2 at 9:32 and so on. A clock at the start shows the exact time so that each crew can set off punctually. The minute start spaces out the field and is the basis for each crew having its own due time at the time controls.
